The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) at the School of Nursing at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ prepares licensed, bachelor’s-prepared registered nurses for advanced clinical practice and leadership roles in healthcare. Rooted in Barry’s mission of collaborative, compassionate care and academic excellence, the MSN builds advanced knowledge, clinical judgment, and evidence-based skills essential for nurse practitioners serving diverse patient populations.

Barry’s MSN program emphasizes holistic, patient-centered care while preparing graduates to meet national certification requirements and state licensure expectations. Barry’s MSN is offered online with an in-person clinical practicum requirement and limited on-campus labs. 

Barry offers two distinct Nurse Practitioner specializations within the MSN degree, each focused on preparing clinically competent, highly skilled advanced practice nurses:

Admission Requirements

1. A baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing granted from a regionally and professionally accredited or internationally recognized college or university. A bachelor’s degree from another discipline will be considered on a case by case basis. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted directly to ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½.
2. A current, unrestricted license as a professional registered nurse in the United States. Out-of-state applicants must be eligible for endorsement by the Florida Board of Nursing. An unrestricted Florida license must be received prior to starting the Program and maintained throughout enrollment in the Program.
3. A minimum of one-year, full-time clinical experience as a Registered Nurse within the last year is required.
4. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants with a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university will have their graduate GPA included for admissions consideration.
5. Transcript evidence of satisfactory completion (grade B or higher) of an undergraduate nursing research course.
6. Applicants must complete an admission interview upon receipt of all admission documentation.
7. One letter of recommendation from professional references.

Graduates of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s CCNE-accredited MSN Nurse Practitioner programs are academically prepared to:

• Sit for the national certification examination aligned with their specialty (FNP or AGACNP)
• Apply for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) licensure through the Florida Board of Nursing or the Board of Nursing in their state of practice.

Licensure requirements may vary by state.

Graduates of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s MSN Nurse Practitioner programs are prepared for roles such as:

Graduates work in settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, community health centers, long-term care facilities, specialty practices, and integrated health systems.

The College of Health Professions & Medical Sciences maintains accreditation for its undergraduate (BSN), master's (MSN), post-graduate certificates (ARNP), and doctoral (DNP) nursing programs through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The master's and DNP in Nurse Anesthesia programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
